Sack races

I feel like I've got my head in a sack like the lolcats. I'm still not feeling well, and I'm still trying to get the revisions done. I don't seem to be making headway on either. This is really getting old though the cats are thrilled with sharing naptime with me.

Sorry I haven't been blog hopping much, but I haven't been on-line much. If I'm not at my computer writing, I'm in bed. I took the kids to piano today, and it just about wore me out. At least I no longer have a fever so that is an improvement.

Luckily no one else has come down with it though my oldest said it hurt to swallow tonight which is how mine started last Monday. I'm praying it's something else. We've been rubbing Thieves Oil on the kidlets feet each night before they go to bed to try to keep them from getting sick. Not sure it'll work, but I figure it can't hurt.

Hope you're all healthy and that catslady hubby is feeling better!

Take care!

Terrorizing Kitties

funny pictures of cats with captions

I finally understand how Chaos feels around the cats. This morning I slept in, still trying to recover from my cold. I opened my eyes to find Smalls staring at me intently. I had no idea if she was ready to attack or what. I reached a hesitant hand toward her, prepared to yank it away if she tried to scratch me. As soon as my fingertips touched fur, she purred. Huge sigh of relief. I could have easily ended up bleeding!

It's been almost a year and a half since Chaos arrived, and the cats still can't stand her. The random, unprovoked attacks continue. She will try to walk past them to get in/out a room and they will raise a paw to her. It's just the way it is, and most likely will continue to be. The cats often do that to each other, too, but Chaos seems to get the brunt of it. She's giving them wider berth and sticking close to me when we must pass them. Poor baby. I decided against the new kitten, but Chaos really could use a four footed creature on her side.

Hope you have a great Monday and aren't terrorized by any kitties!

Beam me...

I really wish there was a transporter system available. I know exactly where I'd want Scotty to beam me, not up but to...Narnia. I could recover, finish revisions and write my Christmas book. When I came returned, only seconds would have passed. Wouldn't that be nice?

Hope you have a nice Saturday!

I wish hubby would send me a box like this! So much better than flowers!

Still sick. I had to cancel a class I teach this morning. Fingers crossed I start getting better over the weekend!

Hope you're having lots of Friday fun!

Want to know what I'm reading?

Go here. I'm the guest blogger at the Pink Heart Society today!

Thanks for all your well wishes. I'm still under the weather, but hoping to see improvement soon. Of course, I can totally relate to this LOLcat given all the doctors and things I've dealt with since my skiing accident in May.

I really am trying to kick whatever I have on my own. Like Templeton, I don't want to go back to the doctors!

Cat Scratch Fever

The story of two of my chairs. Only mine are much worse than this. You can see the stuffing/padding, whatever you call the soft part. Recovering them with a fabric less attractive to kitties still didn't work. A good thing they were hand-me-downs. That is, free. Although I have no idea what to do with them now!

So the good news is I saw went to the orthopedic surgeon's office yesterday. They have released me! My hand still sometime hurts a little at the wrist where the thumb is out of place slightly, but it's not worth trying to fix.

The bad news is I'm sick. The sore throat started yesterday. It hurt so bad I couldn't swallow. A cough came on a little while after that. By last night, I had a runny nose and the chills.

My son told me at bed time that his throat hurt. I'm praying that's all that he gets. He's on some heavy duty antibiotic still for his sinus infection, but if this is viral than that's not going to help him.

Better get to work. I'm going to need a nap or two today!

Take care.

The proposal was emailed last night. Yay! I enjoyed a nice glass of red wine and tried to wade through some of the 2000 emails in one of my inboxes. I barely made a dent. Oh, well. I decided it didn't matter. Instead, I decided it was time to doze like the LOLcat above.

I like dozing. Going to bed before 11 o'clock and getting up after the sun rises is oh-so-nice. I can't wait to do it again.

Maybe in October.

Right now, I must switch gears and jump into revisions. The Vegas continuity is due at the end of the month so I'm right back in deadline mode! At least I got a good night's sleep in between!

Hope your Monday is going well!

Confidence

I need some of these LOLcat's confidence! LOL!

I normally don't blog on weekends, but I normally don't spend Saturday and Sunday glued to my computer! I'm almost finished though.

I have one scene left to write then I can go back and revise my Chapter 3. I thought the chapter would have three scenes, but I've already written three and I'm still missing the one I knew I needed when I started!

Luckily, the first two scenes are already back from my critique partner. I just emailed the third to her. And I hope sooner rather than later to send the fourth to her.

Better get to it!

Have some fun for me please!

I'm in the middle of deadline dementia, and the idea of a LOL key on my keyboard cracks me up! Could you imagine? I would love one of those. What I'd really like though is a LOLcat key so anytime I needed a pick me up, I could press it and a funny kitteh pic would pop up on my screen!

Two soccer games and writing today. Mass and writing tomorrow. That's what I'll be doing. How about you?

Faucet Kitty

My husband emailed me the clip to this YouTube video. It's very cute. One of my cats drinks from the faucet, but she'd never do this. Take a look...

I don't have a lot to say today. My mind is filled with my Christmas story. The proposal is due Monday. I must get it done so I can get back to the revisions for the Vegas continuity which is due at the end of the month. I'll be so thankful when September is over with!

Enjoy your Friday!

A Book Soundtrack Song

I had heard this song before, but yesterday as I was driving to Toys R Us to buy my nephew's birthday present I realized it was a perfect song for the Christmas book I'm writing a proposal for. The song is Use Somebody by Kings of Leon.

If you're interested in hearing it, take a listen. The original video I had embedded has now been disabled so I found this one on mtv.com. There is an ad at the beginning though. If you don't want to sit through an ad, here's the song on YouTube.

Hope you're having a great day!

Power Nap

Me, too!

Last night, if you happen to be one of my Facebook friends, you might have seen my status message. A climber who also happens to be an ER doctor sent me a message on the climbing forum I belong to. He's been answering questions for me about the Christmas story since August when it was a completely different book. He's been a huge help, and last night he entered the Hall of Fame of book research helpers with exactly the info I needed for my proposal. Henceforth, if I mention Dr. Awesome, you will know who I'm talking about.

Dr. Awesome is the reason I already need a power nap this morning. I was so excited to use my newfound info I stayed up late to revise the first two chapters and work on the rough draft of the third!

But I'm not complaining! Not at all!

With two long haired cat, one short hair cat and a Norwegian Elkhound, I can so relate to this. I love my Dyson Animal Vacuum and my Swisher. Even then, there still seems to be a lot of hair around. No way can we wear black, either.

Not much to say today. I've got a proposal due on Monday and the revisions due for the Vegas continuity the next week so I need to write, write, write!

Have a great day!

Dress Up

funny pictures of cats with captions
see more Lolcats and funny pictures

My cats and kidlets have looked at me with the exact same expression as on that LOLcat. The dog, however, doesn't seem to mind when I put a tiara or party hat on her head. She gazes up at me a little impatient, but still adoringly.

I guess I don't blame them. Who wants their mother dressing them? I sure wouldn't because I know I'd end up in the exact same outfit as my sister. We were born twenty months apart. I was the oldest, and I remember having so many things the same: jackets, dresses, outfits. Talk about annoying.

Except I'm guilty of the same thing. Yikes!

Something must happen to a woman's brain during labor and delivery. What else could explain a mother's fascination with matching clothes? There's a scene in the Wizards of Waverly Place movie where the family dresses alike during a vacation that just made me laugh. My kidlets didn't mind so much when they were younger. The youngest still likes it, but now I get that LOLcat look from the oldest. Sometimes, the middle one, too. After all, what boy wants to dress like his sister. Unless it's jammies. They love having the five of us wear the same pjs. Of course, no one outside the house sees us, so maybe that's why.

The cats hate clothing. That lesson took, oh, about a nanosecond and a couple scratches that drew blood to learn. So I've never felt compelled to buy the cats clothing. I must admit I couldn't pass up a Santa's hat and Reindeer ears that were on sale after Christmas one year. I love putting those on the cats at Christmas time even though they hate it. Though I haven't gotten scratched in years. I think they've finally realized when those hats go on, they'll soon be getting a stocking full of yum-yums. Fortunately, even though I don't buy kitty clothes, the girls have enough doll clothing that fits them if the urge to dress them up ever hits. Sometimes, when they do something really annoying, dressing them up is cathartic. Lucky for me, the cats are mellowing in their old age. Hisses have replaced scratching. My skin really appreciates that.

The dog fits into the kidlets' clothing. You may wonder how I know this. Well, Chaos has been dressed up in everything from a Superdog cap to a ballerina tutu. Not by me, mind you. The kidlets even dressed her up to be the teacher when they were playing school. I'm not sure what subject she taught. Digging bones, perhaps. I only dress my beloved dog up in hats. I have no idea why I like to do this except she looks so darn cute I can't help myself. Silly yes, but cuteness overrides all sensibilities especially when it comes to pets.

Do you ever dress up loved ones, either two legged or four legged? If not, what do you think when you see a family in coordinating outfits or animals in clothes?

Sparkly String

I love this LOLcat's expression. So cute. I also love the caption because I agree.

Reaching bliss shouldn't take extravagance or big expense or a whole lot of effort. It should be simple and easy. Like a sparkly string or a piece of chocolate or a good book or a hug from a loved...and the list goes on.

What brings you bliss?

Have a great Saturday!

How much is that kitty in the window?

funny pictures of cats with captions
see more Lolcats and funny pictures

This picture is so true. At least around my house. The three cats ignore me unless they want something, and the dog adores me 24/7. In spite of the cats' behavior, I now have a serious case of want-a-new-kitty.

Yesterday I had to take Chaos to the vet. She has another cyst that's bloody and full of puss. This is her second cyst and our third visit due to cysts. She just seems predisposed to them for some reason. Anyway, when I was checking Chaos in, I noticed a large cage behind the front desk with the sign "Take me home!"

Inside was a 10 week old kitten. She is oh-so-cute. Black fur with a little white on her face and chest. She's really active and totally adorable. I made the mistake of going over there. She has the prettiest green eyes. I got to hold her. She and Chaos even seemed to get along in spite of their size differences.

Of course, the last thing I need or have time for is another pet. Hubby has been telling me that all evening when I bring up the kitten. I know we don't need another cat, but that doesn't mean I don't want another cat. Smalls is 14 or 15. At least that's what the vet thinks. Rocket and Spirit are 12 1/2. It seems like a good time to get a kitten. Maybe she could liven those three up and play mediator with the dog.

Most likely I'll realize another pet isn't a good idea and chances are she's already been taken home by another family, but I'm still having fun thinking about her and imagining what we might want to call her!

Hope you're having a good Thursday!

Release Day!

This is one of my shameless self-promotion posts that appeases the hubby as to why I need to have a blog!

Memo: The Billionaire's Proposal hits the shelves today!

This is the book I wrote last fall so there's a lot about it in the blog's September thru November archives! The hero was inspired by Ioan Gruffudd in King Arthur after I saw a YouTube video with scenes from the movie set to a song I liked. The story received 4 1/2 stars from RT, but I still don't have a copy of the actual review.

If you want a peek of the story you can go to the excerpt on my website or here.

Not all the blog readers listed below comment any longer so I have no idea if they still read the blog or not, and most of the "blog readers" never commented so I have no idea if they're/you're still around, either, but this is from the book's dedication page:
For my blog readers, especially Amy, Brandy, catslady, Dru, Jane, limecello, Nathalie, Rottie_mom, Sarita, Tori and Virginia whose daily comments kept me smiling while I finished writing this book!

Special thanks to Robin Barrett M.D., Roxanne and Brian Coyne, Greg Taylor, Virginia Kantra, Terri Reed and my family.

If you want to check out the actual page, go here. Just hit the forward arrow three times. If you keep going you can read an excerpt of the story!

Writing is such a solitary endeavor. I appreciate all my blog readers, whether you comment or not. You do make a difference. At least to this blogger. It's so nice to know someone is stopping by to read what's going on in my little corner of the world. And the eleven readers mentioned above with their faithful commenting during such a difficult time really kept me smiling and writing when my hands wanted me to stop! Thank you so much, ladies! Thanks to all of you!

Hope you have a great day!

Love,
Melissa

Staying Inside

funny pictures of cats with captions
see more Lolcats and funny pictures

The rain this weekend provided perfect writing weather for me. The kidlets went to my parents' house on Friday and won't be back until later today so I've had lots of time to work. I took a break last night so Hubby and I could have a date night at PF Chang's in the Pearl District and finally use the gift cards his soccer team had given him two seasons ago! But better late than never.

Today will be more writing. I've already critique a chapter for my critique partner and brainstormed a new scene for her book over the phone. Now it's time to hit my own stories. My goal is 1000 words on the Christmas book and 10 revised pages on the Vegas continuity. I will be laboring on this Labor day, but I must admit it's a labor of love!

Do you have any plans for today?

A Letter from Jane

If you've read my June release Dream Date with the Millionaire, you might have guessed I'm a fan of Jane Austen. I have such amazing memories of my tour of southern and western England where my husband visited many of the sights from her books as well as life.

My wonderful friend, Tiffany, recently sent this to me. (You may need to click on the picture to read it.)

I find it so funny that Jane didn't think she wrote romance! I've always considered her novels romances. They have all the necessary ingredients: a heroine, a hero and a HEA.

In the letter above, as well as others reference, she was talking about her story Emma. I see Emma as the boy next door kind of romance. The kind where the perfect guy is right under your nose, but you don't realize it until it's almost too late. Definitely a romance in my book, even if Jane might disagree. Or perhaps she had a different definition of a romance novel all together.

What do you think? Did Jane Austen write romances or do you believe as she did that she "could no more write a romance than an epic poem"?

Danger lurking everywhere!

funny pictures of cats with captions
see more Lolcats and funny pictures

I can so relate! I thought I had everything under control. I printed out my iCal schedule for today. And then when I was least expecting it...

Hubby smelled cat urine in our room. That sent me on a mad search to find it which I did with the kidlets' help. Then hubby said we should clear everything out and make sure there aren't any other spots because he could still smell it. Um, this wasn't on the schedule, but I knew telling him that wasn't going to go over well.

If I was a domestic goddess who kept her bedroom neat, this minor interruption to the day wouldn't have been an issue. A few minutes and I'd be done. I'm now working toward hour three and am still on one side of the room. I'm in the midst of reorganizing a bunch of things and things are even messier than normal so this is a much larger task than I could have envisioned jumping into.

So much for my plans and schedule. This is really not what I needed to be doing today with crafting and writing my priority, but it was either this or chance one of my cats, Spirit, to be put outside for good. I sure hope the ladies at the meeting understand. Just hope I can manage a shower. Right now I'm still in my jammies.

The glamorous life of a romance writer. Ha-ha!

Holding up!

funny pictures of cats with captions
see more Lolcats and funny pictures

I can so relate to this LOLcat. It's one of those weeks where I'm crafting, writing, organizing and getting back in school mode for the kidlets. Tomorrow night I'm supposed to have samples of the crafts for the year. Not. Going. To. Happen. I have some of them done, but not all 24 crafts.

One craft, a fleece hat, needs to have two seams sewed, and I have no idea where my sewing machine is. I need to find it because I must stitch 48 fleece hats this month for our October meeting. The girls will be threading a coordinating color through the brim and cutting/tying off the top. They will be donated to the Community Transitional School in Portland as well as Human Solutions which runs shelters for homeless.

The good news is I'm halfway through the revisions, and the new Christmas story is finally coming together. I know the opening chapter! I think this will be a fun story and work great for the winter season. It was just hard to start over and toss what I had before. Since I'm keeping the same characters and setting, I really can't save the old stuff. It just wouldn't work since the conflicts will still be the same, just now it's winter on Mount Hood, not autumn.

I've discovered iCal on my computer and trying to be more organized. Emphasis on trying! But yesterday went well. Today probably would have gone better had I remembered to print out the schedule. Oh, well, a new routine takes time to get used to!

Hope you had a nice Tuesday!
