Texts From My Cat

Spirit doesn't text, but still gets her point across!
I'm not sure of copyright rules for this so I'm just going to paste the link and tell you to read it. Click here to go to Sad and Useless where they've posted the Texts From My Cat article.  Enjoy!

Mittens, the texting cat, has quite the feline sense of humor. Even if you don't have a cat, you might even laugh. This crazy cat lady laughed hard!

A couple of my furbabies would likely sound like Mittens. I say this because of the way they communicate with me, especially Spirit. She lets me know what she wants, whether it's food, rubs or in the picture to the left, she wanted to see what Santa Paws filled her stocking with on Christmas Morning!

Hope you have a great Friday!

Cats

Sometimes when we leave, we'll see a cat sitting in the window watching us go. I always figured they were thinking "good riddance," but now I'm wondering if they're like the lolcat above!

Yesterday was the first anniversary of my cat Smalls crossing the Rainbow Bridge. My whole day was off, starting with a 5 am wake up from the dog, who heard something outside. Then Spirit wouldn't eat so I took her to the vet for more Sub Q fluids. I fear we may be getting to the end with her with kidney failure, which made yesterday that much harder.

That means writing like crazy to catch up to where I should be. I spent what time I had yesterday rewriting some parts and making my heroine more consistent and sympathetic. She was a bit too hard-nosed originally and ready to take-down the hero (and not in a good way) the minute she sees him. A lot nicer and motivated now! At least I hope so!

I did want to share another link with you. 25 pictures of places cats like to relax. It's so cute. I just love these articles from Buzzfeed. Enjoy!

Have a great hump day. Don't know about you, but I'm ready for the weekend already!

Sick Spirit

I got home for the 24 hour emergency vet hospital at 2 am. One of my cats, 14 yo Spirit was not feeling well last night. Of course, I don't realize this until way too late when I should be going to bed. But I was concerned enough to call. And they were concerned that she could have a blockage so off we went.

Fortunately, it's only a UTI. Huge sigh of relief. They told me she was in great shape for her age. They gave her an injection of antibiotic and gave me pills to give her at home. She's resting now. I'll be taking a nap later!

How's your day going?

Waiting

Funny Pictures - Ninja Cat

Call me paranoid, but with the deadline looming, I keep waiting for something to happen. Something to throw a wrench into my writing plans for the next five days. And I wouldn't be surprised to find out one of the cats was plotting something just like this LOLcat pic above.

One already tried. Spirit swiped at my right hand the other day. Maybe she didn't like the fact I was rubbing her and another cat at the same time. Or maybe she wasn't jealous and just didn't want me to pet her. Who knows what goes on inside the mind of a cat?

Her claw managed to get under a fingernail on my right hand. Ouch. I never realized how hard it was to get dried blood out from under a fingernail. The bandage made typing a challenge. But at least it's healing now.

Hmmm, I wonder if that's why I finally made my NaNoWriMo word count goal yesterday. Today is a typical crazy Wednesday. I teach three different sessions at church. Plus, it's a special day for my youngest. She makes her First Reconciliation today. She's very nervous about going to confession. If you could say a prayer or send good thoughts her way, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Better get writing. I'd love to hit my word count goal two days in a row!

Devil Cats

I'm exhausted. Not something that's rare around here, but the cause is a little different this time.

My cats.

The other night, Yoda decided to spend the night inside the shower batting the glass doors with his paw. Hubby finally got out of bed, shooed Yoda out and closed the shower door. But not until it had totally interrupted sleep.

Last night, Spirit kept coming up to me and patting my face with her paw. I'd give her love, but that wasn't good enough. She wanted the food bowl filled, even though it was the middle of the night. Unfortunately there wasn't any food. I'd empty the bag when I filled the bowl at dinnertime. She pawed me every fifteen minutes until hubby went to the store really early in the morning and bought a bag.

How tired am I? On the way back om my son's soccer practice, I totally drove past the freeway exit we normally take home.

Darn cats.

Right now Yoda is squeezed inside a kids' size 7 shoe box. He's so big most of his appendages hang out, but he's happy inside. And I must admit, he looks so cute crammed into the small space.

Spirit is on the corner of the bed waiting for me to crawl under the covers. All of me except for my left foot. She expects that to be outside the cover so she can use it as a pillow. My fault for getting her in the habit, but what can I say? I'm a sucker for a pretty fur covered face that meows.

It's a good thing cats don't have opposable thumbs. Otherwise, they might really rule the world! Though my kitties already rule me.

Hope you have a good weekend. Have any plans?

Mean Cat

Spirit, my grey kitty, keeps getting meaner. She'll be thirteen years old this month. I thought she might mellow, but nope. It keeps getting worse. She will attack the other cats. The dog, too. She wants what she wants and makes sure she gets it whether it's a chair to sit on, the bed to herself or rubs. It's really annoying because she can also be the sweetest kitty in the world when she wants to be.

I have spoiled all the pets rotten, but no one else has turned into a mean girl (or boy.) Guess she wants to make sure she remains top cat around her. But it's sad how all the other pets now keep their distance from her.

Hope you have a good day and are surrounded by nice people and animals :-)

Lesson Not Learned

Last night, I was unloading my minivan. I'd done my big grocery shopping trip which meant stops at three different stores: Costco, Fred Meyer and Winco. Lots of bags and an ice chest needed to be carried in. Chaos was in the backyard so I didn't have to worry about her getting out front, but guess who kept hanging out by the front door?

Spirit.

You'd think she would have learned her lesson the last time I was carrying in groceries like this, but no. She kept moving closer and closer to the door. I had to keep chasing her away so she wouldn't run out. She didn't care that I told her next time she got out she might not be so lucky. I finally tired of her games and ran her upstairs, but I still kept the door closed. No way did I want her out again all night, especially with the temperatures so low.

I didn't know if she was bored or what, but then she sat on the steps and meowed. I knew exactly what was wrong then. She was hungry. The meows kept increasing in volume and frequency until I walked up the steps. She darted into the bathroom where her food and water are kept.

I can't believe how spoiled these animals are. And, yes, I know, it's all my fault.

Spirit must be served her food with no spills or mess. She turns up her nose if any of the food falls out of the bowl when I pour. She must always eat before the other two cats, and they give her a wide berth until she's finished even if she only takes a nibble. She's the exact opposite of Smalls who is just like the kitty in the pic below. Smalls will eat out of the bag and drink out of the toilet. She eats of dishes and checks out the garbage if the door is left open. But then again, Smalls lived outside for the majority of her life and learned to fend for herself.

But at least Spirit was inside tonight. I did a kitty count like catlady posted about just to make sure before I went to bed and all three were accounted for. I think the next time I'll lock her in my room to be on the safe side.

Hope you have a good Friday! Mine looks busy as usual with a few appointments and such. What about you?

The Animal Eye Doctor

One my three cats, Spirit, has an eye ulcer. We took her to see Dr. Kirschner, an animal eye doctor in Beaverton, Oregon on Tuesday. This was our second visit to the clinic. Since then Spirit has been on daily doses of three different medicines: two types of eye drops (one four drops a day, one two drops a day) and a pill. We thought the medicine was working because Spirit started opening her left eye. She no longer looked like a pirate kitty 24/7!

A trip to the doctor is not easy on Spirit. It's a long drive to from our house, and she does not like the car. Dr. Kirschner took us into the exam room. Poor Spirit did not want to come out of her carrier. I had to get her out while Rose held onto it. Spirit was so frightened, but Dr. Kirschner coaxed her closer so she could examine her. The doctor was very patient and gentle with my freaked out kitty.

The doctor reviewed her record and we talked briefly about Spirit's most recent blood test results from her regular vet. We've repeated the test with the same extremely low platelet count results, but she's showing no symptoms. Dr. Kirschner then checked Spirit with the lights on. Again, I was very impressed with the doctors easy manner that put not only the cat, but me at ease.

Next, Dr. Kirschner checked Spirit's eyes with the lights off. You wouldn't know it was dark from the picture though. My mistake. I thought I had the flash off, but I didn't. It surprised all of us including Spirit so I decided no more pictures when the lights were off. I really need to learn how to use my camera better.

With the lights on, Dr. Kirschner put drops into Spirit's eyes that turn green. This enables her to see things better. She then put on a head device, turned off the lights and checked Spirit's eyes again using the different equipment.

Afterwards, I could see green on the inner corners of Spirit's eyes that day, but she didn't seem to mind them. Must be all the eye drops she has to have!

All done! The examination didn't take that long.

Now that wasn't so bad, was it Spirit?

And good news!

The ulcer has shrunk 50%! We will continue the drops and the pill each day and visit Dr. Kirschner again in a couple of weeks. There's also something else going on with her eyes, but we're taking care of the biggest problem first.

One final picture of the patient and her eye doctor before getting back into the dreaded cat carrier and the evil minivan for the long journey home. Though Spirit looks ready to get out of there!

I've felt the same way when I've been at the doctors!

What about you? Do you mind going to the doctor's or are you ready to get out of their before you even go into the exam room?
