Who hasn't felt like the cat in the picture? I know I have more times than I care to admit.
Last night we stopped by Toys R Us. Yes, it has a/c!
Rose has been asking to buy a new backpack for a while now. One time led to a few tears that reminded me a little of the picture above. Earlier in the week, we'd been at a different Toys R Us where Mackenna bought a Jonas Brothers Messenger bag and lunch box. Rose whined about not having her wallet with her, but she managed not to cry when she walked out empty handed. A step in the right direction. Yesterday she finally figured out how to ask politely, and her daddy said, "Yes!"
When we arrived at the store, she knew exactly what she wanted...a Selena Gomez backpack. If you don't know who Selena Gomez is, she's a young actress who plays Alex Russo on the Disney Channel show Wizards of Waverly Place. She was also one of the little kids from the Barney show.
They had three or four different versions of Selena backpacks and messenger bags. Rose looked at each one. She picked a black pack with a colorful paisley like design on it with a picture of Selena and the word "Alex" written in hot pink.
Toys R Us was also having a sale this week that we learned about when Mackenna had purchased hers. If you bought a backpack, you also got a free lunchbox (worth $7.00) so she picked out a matching one! Not a bad deal for $14.99.
At the cashier's, her eyes twinkled when she pulled out $15 from her Tinkerbell wallet. This was her first backpack. Let me clarify that, her first backpack that wasn't a hand-me-down from her big sister. She put it on and wore it out of the store. She was so proud. And so was I!

May the Force be with Us

We had fun at Amy's. We swam, ate lunch and chatted while the kidlets played. But the temperature was still rising when it was time to leave so I decided to drive to my parents' house after hubby suggested it via a phone call. Unfortunately my parents had turned off their a/c when they left for an overnight trip to the Oregon coast and it was 94 inside. All that driving to reach a house that was hotter than my own.
Fortunately, they have a basement so we stayed down their. The a/c never did cool the upstairs off before we left. When we got home, our downstairs was 10 degrees cooler than my parents! This morning the downstairs got down to 73 degrees (that's where we slept once again.) The upstairs is currently 82 degrees.
It's suppose to be another hot one today so we may have to go in search of a/c once again!

Hot
I'm heading south to Amy's house. She has a pool and a/c. We're miserable here. Sorry I haven't been blog-hopping. Our upstairs, where my computer is, is over 90 degrees by lunchtime. I just can't sit here for too long. We've been going to the library, the store, any place that has a/c to keep cool. Anyway, hope you are staying cool wherever you are!

Cool Thoughts

Sitting at my nephew's baseball game when it was 107 degree out reminded me of when I lived in Arizona and would watch the Firebirds (the Giants' AAA baseball team play.) It didn't bother me as much then. Last night it was so hot! My hubby kept telling everyone to think cool thoughts. Yeah, right. Everyone thought he was crazy. But it was worth dealing with the heat to be there. Cascade won! Yay! Two more games will determine who goes to California to play at Regionals!
Yesterday was a good news kind of day in spite of the heat.
In the morning, a 19 pound package of books were delivered via UPS. Shirley Marks, who I room with at RWA conferences, and her daughter collected a bunch of books for me to giveaway here on the blog. Once things settle down with my hand, I hope to get the contests going again!
I also got great news when I got home from the game. My September release, Memo: The Billionaire's Proposal, got 4 1/2 stars from Romantic Times. If anyone sees the review, could you please pass it my way? Thanks!

Heat Wave

The Pacific Northwest is facing a scorcher of the week. Lucky for me, I picked 8 am for the kids swim lessons. We just got home from the pool. I was thinking it might be too early, but it was a perfect morning.
Rose hasn't had swim lessons since she was 2 so I realized I'd better enroll her before the summer disappeared. She was the only one in her Level 1 class so we'll see if anyone joins in as the week goes on. The older two are also in classes. They're working on improving their strokes and just having fun.
My nephew's team from Cascade League is in the Oregon State tournament for Junior Baseball. We sat in 100 degree heat to watch them beat a team. They were ahead by more than 10 runs in the 5th so the game got called. There's another game today, but it's a later start so I'm hoping it'll be cooler!
I ended up sleeping downstairs on the couch last night because it was so much cooler than upstairs. Chaos and Rocket joined me. I think I'm going to have to force Spirit to stay downstairs. She looks so miserable. The kidlets aren't bothered by it at all.
Not much else to say. If you have cooler temps, send them our way please!

Hand Therapy

This cracked me up. This would be our cats. We have one television in the house and it's only 20".
I went to my first session of hand therapy yesterday. I have two different colors of putty to work with to regain strength in my hand. It's got 50% less strength than my right. Yikes! I have a sheet full of different types of exercises to do. I have two sessions next week.
While I was doing some of the exercises we talked about the CTS symptoms I'd had the past year and how I figured out if I was doing push ups or certain weight lifting exercises, it got worse. She explained the physiology by having me imagine a garden hose that gets bent and plugged. The same thing happens in that push up position and then you add weight (either body or a barbell) to it. Not a good thing in my case!
She recommended icing my palms if I'm writing a lot, even if I'm not having symptoms. She says that a lot of issues are because of swelling/inflammation and ice can really help that. Seems easy enough to try! And she said to keep sleeping in my hand braces. Again, easy to do.
Hope you have a nice Saturday! We're coming into another hot spell with 100+ degrees on tap. With no a/c, I'm not looking forward to it!

Cats in Trees

This picture made me smile, but I also had to wonder about cats in trees. One of my cats, Smalls, came with our first house. There was a plum tree right next to the garage. It was a single car, one story, not part of the house kind of garage off the back. Smalls would climb up the tree to sit on the roof peak. She never had any trouble going up and down the tree so it begs a question... do cats really get stuck in trees? I've never seen it happen so am curious to know if you have.

A life

I took a break from my computer this weekend aside from a couple Facebook status messages and Tweet on Twitter. Instead of sitting at my computer, I actually got out and had fun with my family. It felt so good!
Here's the recap:
We drove to Seattle on Friday night. The kidlets were Irish dancing on Saturday. It was a short, but welcome vacation. Swimming at Marriot's lovely Atrium pool on Friday night, putting three exhausted kidlets to bed, and having a brief, but needed date in the hotel's lounge with my hubby. We hadn't had one of those in forever!
On Saturday, the kidlets competed. Everyone came home with at least one medal so a good showing. They also swam some more. Always a good thing to do when you have a pool available.
I was able to visit with my wonderful friend Elizabeth Boyle, who drove to the hotel so we could have coffee between competitions on Saturday. She wrote about our visit on our blog so you can read all about it here. What she says is so very true! I can't wait to see her again!
The hardest part of the trip was leaving Chaos. My parents couldn't dogsit so we had to put her in a kennel. It was so sad leaving her there. She only spent one night, approx. 36 hours there in total. We made it home before 9 pm on Saturday so could pick her up. She was so happy to see us! And us her. Of course, she's been wanting to be next to us or on top of us all the time. Our 49 pound lap dog!
On Sunday we went to Mass. It was such a beautiful day we decided to go hiking before it got too hot. We quickly changed clothes, grabbed a first aid kit, water and Chaos collapsable water bowl and headed out on a hike around the lake. Fun times! Last night was family movie night. The five of us watched Inkheart. After the kidlets went to bed, hubby and I watched Fireproof.
On the writing front, I'm waiting to hear about the book I just sent in. I also started on another project. This is the book I was working on when I was asked to write the continuity. The working title is Rescue Me. It's a sequel to my November '08 release, Rescued by the Magic of Christmas, and the hero is mountain rescue team leader, Sean Hughes. His Siberian Husky, Denali, is in there, too!

Bored?

This pic cracked me up. I'm so not bored. I don't know what boredom means. I wish I did! But I just always have something to do.
The kidlets, however, are like the cat above. More toys and gadgets than anyone needs and what do I hear? "I'm bored." "What can we do?" It's enough to drive you crazy. This only happens in the middle of rainy season. Right now, with the sun shining, there's no way they could be bored. In our little cul de sac there are 18 kids in 6 houses so it's like nonstop recess because there's always some one to ride bikes or scooters with, play baseball or soccer and run through sprinklers or have a water balloon fight. This is why I wanted to live in a neighborhood like this!

Idea Kitteh

I keep waiting for the idea kitteh to show up and lend a hand with the book. I left out some treats, but the my furbabies ate them. I may try some cheese next!
I cannot wait to type THE END. It's gotta be done on Wednesday. Though it's going to take a miracle. Thursday I see a hand specialist for a second opinion. A few of you had asked in the comment section about my thumb. It's still hurting which is one reason I think things haven't been going as smoothing writing wise. Pain and writing just don't go well together!

Cooler

The temperature has dropped here. Thank goodness because it made writing and sleep difficult. Every summer it's the same thing...wishing we'd installed a/c, complaining a bit and surviving the heat spell. It's only early July so I'm sure there will be more hot days ahead!
I continue to write, write, write. One week to go until I have to send in the book. The first seven chapters are in great shape. The last part of the book not so much. Better get back to it.

Mills and Boon Website
After trying to register at the revamped Mills & Boon website a couple months ago, I finally managed to get on last week, and I immediately went to the new community section to find the forum for the blindatebrides.com trilogy. I'd been here before during one of my failed log in attempts, but must have only scanned the page otherwise I think I would have noticed what was written in the community home page's highlighted thread box:
My first thought was "Huh?" My next thought was "Hmmm, I wonder if this is payback for never sending in my author info for the website." My final thought before clicking through to the thread was "Oh, well, at least they mentioned it was a 3 book series." I just had to laugh.
After I posted a comment on the thread, I explored the website a little and recommend you do the same if you're a fan of category romance. I didn't have a lot of time that first day, but went back a few days later. I'm glad I did.
My biggest discovery was a great review of Dream Date with the Millionaire there. Check it out here! I usually only get reviewed in RT so reading this really made my day.
I also found a whole bunch of free on-line reads. You can scroll down the list here. Husband Material, the online read I originally wrote for eharlequin a few years ago is there, too, if you haven't read it yet. They also list upcoming and current releases in their bookstore with excerpts you can read.
I mentioned above not sending in my author info so if you happen to look for my name in the author list it isn't there, and it's 100% my fault. I lost the paperwork they sent me and think I deleted the second set they emailed me because I can't find that on my computer, either. One of these days, I'll get around to cleaning my office and organizing my writing things (i.e. contracts, royalty statements, edited manuscripts, other paperwork and foreign translations) into one place, and I'll find the forms so I can get added to the list of Mills & Boon authors. Until then, I hope my books will be enough, because really it's about them not me.

Hot off the press ... news of Jennie Adams and Fiona Harper's new 3 book series.

I made it to 8:00 am Mass thanks to Chaos waking me up, but that's about all I've managed to do today. I didn't get to sleep until after 2 am last night and it's been so hot in the house, today's been going from one nap to the next!
Hope you're having a good day. It's cooling off now and I'm not so tired so I'm finally hoping to write more now.

Random Friday

The one thing I love about using public restrooms...privacy. At home someone (kidlet, cat, dog) always wants to be in there with me. Sometimes more than one. If I shut the door, watch out. That can result in tears, meowing, scratching and barks. It's nice to be loved, but is a few minutes alone in the bathroom too much to ask?
Yesterday, Chaos turned 4! I took some time off to take her on a birthday walk. It was so hot we didn't go far because I didn't want her to get overheated, but she enjoyed it. Tonight she's remained plastered at my side due to all the fireworks being shot off. She really doesn't like them.
The writing marathon continues. I'm making progress. Yay! But I still have a ways to go. Boo!
Not sure what's going on with my thumb. I've done the exercises to regain mobility and that's going well. Unfortunately, it's hurting and by the end of the day more swollen than when I wake up. I'll probably call the doc tomorrow because I really don't know if that's normal or not.

More writing

I smiled when I saw this LOLcat. So cute! There are times, like this morning, when lying down on the floor and going back to sleep would feel so good.
I continue to wake up at the most insane hours with no alarm clock needed. Yesterday it was before 5 am. Today I managed to sleep in until 5:15 am. This is so not me!
Anyway, I get up and walk two or so steps to my chair and computer. A good thing it's not a huge distance or I might end up like the LOLcat above. Of course, being so close to the bed means I'm not burning a lot of calories right now since I'm not getting out of my bedroom much these days so a diet and extra exercise will be forthcoming, but the location sure is convenient when it's bedtime!
