Snow

We're in Bend with my friend Tiffany and her son Henry. We went skiing at Mount Bachelor today. Boy, am I tired and sore. Out of shape am I! It started snowing after lunch and hasn't let up. It's so pretty. I saw on Facebook that it's also snowing where we live. About time!

What are you up to today?

Mount Hood and more

Now that I finally got my pics downloaded here are a few that deal with my injury.

On Memorial Day, we arrived at Timberline early. The sun was shining. Perfect conditions for spring skiing. Hubby was going hiking while we skied and took this pic just before the kids and I set out that morning.

Hubby snapped this pic of one of the Snowcats on his way to hike. This is one of the nicer snowcats. When hubby climbed Mt. Hood, he rode up in an older one that they joked had been used when they filmed the movie The Shining. In the background you can see Timberline Lodge.

Chaos and hubby were hiking somewhere east of the lodge. Not exactly sure where, but this is one of the pics he took. She loves the snow and hiking. Her fave part, however, is descending. She loves to run down.

Hubby wanted to take pictures of me getting oxygen and being examined in the Ski Patrol First Aid room, but I waved him off. Talk about adding insult to injury! He settled for this shot.

On Wednesday, I saw a specialist and got a pink cast. This was to hold my thumb in place, and as of my last set of x-rays was working. I have never had a cast before so it was interesting to see how they put it on and how it hardens as it dries.

Here I am with the cast almost done. If you look closely, you can see the bruise on my right arm. I'm so thankful it was only a bruise and not a fracture!

I get more x-rays (praying my wrist really isn't broken!) and a new cast today.I'm still trying to figure out what color to get. Right now I'm leaning toward lime green, but my climbing and Crossfit friend Jen (as well as my son) think camo would be cool. Maybe pink camo. We'll see!

Random Friday

funny pictures of cats with captions

I got a call from the ambulance company yesterday wanting to know if I have insurance so I gave them all the info. That should be an interesting bill. I'm praying that was my first and last ambulance ride.

Tomorrow we're taking Chaos to a Norwegian Elkhound gathering. It's put on by her original mom, who hasn't seen her since she dropped her off at our house a year ago April. We're hoping to see Chaos' mom, daughter, half sister and half brother. The kidlets are so excited!

I'm spending as much time as I can writing. That panicky, need-to-buy extra chocolate feeling is setting in. Couple that with a hurting hand, and I'm a little freaked out. But I usually do my best writing in these conditions so I shouldn't worry!

I keep forgetting I have a book, Dream Date with the Millionaire, on sale right now. I'll come up with a contest to run for the remainder of its release this weekend so stay tuned!

Any random things you want to share?

Good news, bad news

The good news is my thumb is where it should be, and I can type all I want! The doctor said typing will actually help healing so this made me very happy.

The bad news is the doctor thinks I may have also broken my wrist. There looks to be a fracture in a not-so-good place on one of the x-rays. I'll go back in two weeks to have the cast removed, more x-rays taken then a new cast put on. If it's broken like she thinks, I'll be in a cast for a while to see if it heals naturally. And if it doesn't... I don't even want to think about that.

Thanks for all your comments yesterday. I really appreciate them.

Hope this is a good news day for you all!

A Pink Cast

The doctor thinks I might not have to have surgery on my hand. Yesterday, they took more X-rays, put my thumb into place and put a cast on my hand. I got to pick the color and choose pink for my two girls. Of course, my son would have preferred a different color.

I go back next week to see if my thumb is where it should be. Please say a prayer that it is. I'd like to a avoid surgery if possible!

Unfortunately, my hand is now hurting as bad as it did on Monday and my head isn't feeling so hot, either. I think I overdid it a little yesterday so I'm going to take it easy the rest of the day.

Is there anyone up there who would mind typing up the Crossfit Challenges for me to get it caught up? I can either add you as a contributor to the blog or you can just email them to me. Whatever works. Thanks!

Hi!

Thanks for the comments and concern. Much appreciated!

My head is feeling better. I don't remember hitting it, but Finn says I did. Thank goodness for helmets!

My right arm is nasty looking where I think the top of my ski pole hit it, but the swelling is going down. The same with my face where my left hand and pole hit. I do remember that happening! My first thought when I was lying on the snow was "I broke my thumb!"

I called hubby who was hiking on a glacier with the dog and said I thought I broke it, told him to head to lodge and in the meanwhile we kept skiing. Bet you're thinking that's crazy, but I had no idea at that point anything else was hurt but my thumb and cheek since I didn't remember the complete fall. But a little while later, it was clear more was wrong.

My left hand is in a splint and sling. I'm typing with my right. My doc appt. was cancelled yesterday when they lost electricity. I'm hoping to get in today to figure out what what's. It's clear from the x-ray something's not right. I'm praying it'll be a quick and easy fix.

I'll try to get the Crossfit Challenge posts going again later. I'm looking forward to catching up on people's blogs. Not sure how much commenting I can manage though!

Thanks again!

Update on Melissa

This is Melissa's husband. I am sorry to report that Melissa is a bit out of commission due to a skiing accident today at Timberline. We're thankful that she was wearing a helmet because in the spill she hit her head. After an ambulance ride down the mountain and visit to the hospital Melissa is resting at home. She will see a specialist tomorrow to check out her left hand. Your prayers are appreciated. Thank you.

Brrrrr

More skiing today. Snowflakes came down so hard it was difficult to see at times, but the snow was gorgeous to ski on. So much better than yesterday. We all had a great time. We skied twice as long as yesterday, but the kids were ready to call it quits. It was cold out there and various appendages were starting to bother them! It was time to hit the lodge and warm-up!

The only one not cold was Chaos. She was completely in her element with her fur covered with snowflakes. She bounded through the snow and didn't want to get back in the car. I took her for a final walk after dropping off all my gear. Unfortunately that included my jacket and gloves. By the time I got back to the minivan I was frozen. I had to use the defroster to warm up my fingers!

The fingers are now warm and toasty and crossed that we can go skiing again tomorrow.

Do you have any big plans for the day?

Fun in the Snow

funny pictures of cats with captions
see more Lolcats and funny pictures

We spent this morning up at Timberline skiing. The weather was pretty bad with lots of snow falling and wind. The kidlets persevered though. I was proud of them.

The snow was a heavy powder, very hard to turn in. We all took tumbles. Though when I fell, they kept going and were soon out of sight. I didn't like that at all, especially with Finn dashing into the trees and taking jumps. I had to put an end to that. All I could think was tree wells! Those can be very dangerous. I promised him once it was more spring skiing conditions he could do tree ski, but there was just too much deep powder right now!

By lunchtime, everyone was hungry. We ate in the lodge, warmed up with hot chocolate and with a unanimous vote decided not to go back out. The weather had worsened by then. So we packed up our cooler, gathered our things and headed to the minivan.

Chaos accompanied us to Mt. Hood. She also got to have fun with a long walk where she had a blast playing in the deep snow. She was up to her chest and bounding through it. She couldn't get enough of it! I'm sure she can't wait until we go again. If the weather takes a turn for the better, that'll be tomorrow!

How's the weather where you are?

Crossfit - skills day

On Friday before the kidlet's Crossfit Kids class, I had another session with Nichole:

Warm-up: Stretches, 750 m row
Skills: Push press with PVC pipe. We spent a lot of time on this. It's hard for me to be explosive when I come up. She had me practice the movement in front of a pipe. I thought I might hit myself in the face, but that forced me to get it right. I did one with a weighted bar. I think it was 45 lbs. That was hard.
Workout: none
Cool down: Wall squats, ball sits and sit-ups

We're up at Mount Hood this weekend, trying to get a couple final days of skiing in before our passes expire. Yesterday was a gorgeous, no jacket needed but don't forget the sunscreen kind of day. This morning it's raining where we are so who knows what it's like at Timberline Lodge right now. If it's raining up there, we'll probably drive down and see Prince Caspian.

I managed to get my pages done though. I halved my page goal for today and tomorrow since we're on vacation, but yesterday I exceeded it in spite of the skiing, going out to dinner and Mass. I really do write better in the mountains!

What are you doing today?

P.S. I'll post the contest winner once I get my pages done. This is really the post I should have done for Saturday, but was too tired!

Snow!

A bunch of snow fell last night so I'm going skiing today. Yes, I should be writing, but I'll do that tonight. I'm pretty worn out from all the Easter activities and need fill the well so I can write something I won't end up deleting. Did everyone have a nice day yesterday?

And this week's contest winner is...

Skiing has been great. I can't wait to hit the slopes again today so I thought I'd better post this week's free book winner before we left.

Here are your random numbers:

This week's free book winner is Brandy. She won with a comment on the post, Waiting. Brady, please pick a book from the list here and email me your selection with your snail address. You can find my email via the contact link on my website. And even if you've won a book in the past please include your mailing address. That makes things easier for me. Thanks!

Last week's winner Dru chose Got the Look by James Grippando. Hope you enjoy the book, Dru.

Tonight is Oscar night. I love award shows, but I have to teach so will miss some of it. Are you planning to watch the Academy Awards? I didn't see many movies this past year so most are just names to me. Is there a specific movie you're rooting for.

Time to wake everyone up and get ready. Have a great day!

And the winner is...

By the time I emailed our trilogy idea (many pages worth of stuff) it was very late so after a day of skiing, then woodburning, then writing, I choose to go to bed instead.

So here we go.

Here are your random numbers:

Timestamp: 2008-02-18 15:20:25 UTC

This week's free book winner is Dru. She won with a comment on the post, Back From Seattle. Dru, please pick a book from the list here and email me your selection with your snail address. You can find my email via the contact link on my website. Thanks!

Last week's winner, Brandy, choose Bite Me If You Can by Lynsay Sands. (I have more than one copy to give away which is why it's still on the book list.) Two weeks ago winner, Dena, chose Swept Away by Toni Blake. Oh, and our Valentine's Day winner, Catslady chose In Deep Waters... from my backlist.

I was supposed to spend today skiing. It's going to be another gorgeous clear blue sky day. Hubby and the two younger ones are on their way to Timberline right now. But I'm staying home. Mackenna's knee had been hurting her after Crossfit Kids on Friday and it was really hurting her after skiing yesterday. It is swollen so now she's off her feet icing it every 20 minutes and using crutches until it no longer hurts when she puts weight on it. The hubby tweaked his knee yesterday, too. He was even wearing a brace. I had him do the same rest, ice, elevation and ibuprofen. I hope he's okay to ski today.

Once we get our trilogy idea approved I'll go into a few more details, but until we hear back from the editors, I don't want to say anything other than it's about three heroines who live in three different countries: UK, Australia and the US. Each of us authors if from one of those countries!

Have a good day!

Sorry!

Whatever I caught Thursday night was not fun. I spent two days in bed sprinkled with short wood burning sessions on Friday and Saturday. I was feeling better today so we went skiing. Talk about an awesome day! Blue skies and lovely snow! Of course, I should have been writing.

I actually sold something the week before last without even submitting anything! I was asked to participate in a trilogy with two other authors, one I met in Dallas, the other who I met last night via Yahoo chat. I assumed we'd be receiving a bible with what Editorial wanted us to write. Wrong! I found out last night (I hadn't been checking email) that we get to come up with the trilogy ourselves. And guess what? All three manuscripts are due May 1. Gulp!

Anyway, we came up with something and due to the time change I need to put it all together so we can email it off tonight. Once I do that I'll announce the contest winner if it's not too late. Otherwise, it'll be first thing in the morning.

Hope you had a great day!
